Born in 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri, Michele Bourque Sewards is an American printmaker and painter known for her imaginative and stylized depictions of flora and fauna. She earned her BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1966 and her MFA from the University of New Mexico in 1970. Her work often explores themes of nature, mythology, and the interplay between reality and fantasy.
Sewards was a Roswell Artist-in-Residence from 1973 to 1974, an experience that significantly influenced her artistic development. During this time, she created numerous works that combined her interests in natural forms and mythological themes. Her art is held in several public collections, including the Albuquerque Museum, the Grunewald Center for the Graphic Arts in Los Angeles, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Minneapolis Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe.
