Ellen Chadwick creates contemporary landscapes in oil on canvas and on paper. These works are inspired by the high deserts and mountains of the Southwest and Utah. Her bold, angular shapes and colors become metaphors for rocky waterfalls, stark mesas and peaks, paying tribute to her great love of the land. Chadwick has been painting in New Mexico since the 1980s and shared a home with her husband Larry Ogan, who was also a painter and a devoted arts advocate and patron of Santa Fe.
Chadwick studied painting and printmaking at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Her work is included in numerous private and public collections in the region.
It continues to be the mission of the Capitol Art Foundation to build a permanent collection of New Mexico masterworks that are representative of New Mexico’s rich and diverse cultural, historical and artistic traditions.
