Gloria Graham (b. 1940) is a multidisciplinary artist based in New Mexico, widely recognized for her innovative explorations of form, science, and the natural world. Her creative practice spans several mediums, including sculpture, painting, photography, and mixed media. Graham’s work is deeply informed by a curiosity about the universe—often weaving together themes of mathematics, geometry, biological structures, and celestial patterns.
Educated in both the arts and sciences, Graham has developed a unique visual language that reflects an analytical yet poetic engagement with her subjects. She frequently integrates references to physics, anatomy, and fractal structures into her compositions, using abstraction and symbolism to examine both cosmic and personal dimensions of experience.
Over the decades, Graham has exhibited nationally and internationally, with her work featured in major museums, public collections, and scientific-art collaborations. In New Mexico, she is regarded as a bridge between the vibrant Southwestern art scene and a broader intellectual tradition rooted in inquiry and interconnectedness.
In addition to her studio practice, Graham has contributed to arts education and interdisciplinary dialogue, mentoring emerging artists and participating in panels that explore the relationship between visual art and science.
Her piece Bound Pot (1977), housed in the New Mexico State Capitol Collection, exemplifies her hybrid approach: a convergence of ancient vessel form, tactile texture, and conceptual depth—honoring tradition while transcending it.
