Refuge Near Chaco Canyon (2015)
Bronze Sculpture
Gift of the Artist in Honor of Minerva Castro
Harry Leippe is a New Mexico–based artist whose sculptural work reflects a lifelong engagement with landscape, memory, and cultural reverence. Working primarily in cast bronze, Leippe crafts forms that are both minimalist and deeply symbolic—drawing viewers into quiet dialogues with place and time.
Refuge Near Chaco Canyon is a meditative tribute to one of the American Southwest’s most spiritually resonant landscapes. Chaco Canyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was a major center of Ancestral Puebloan civilization. Leippe’s sculpture evokes the sense of shelter and stillness that the canyon represents—a timeless sanctuary shaped by stone, sky, and silence.
Leippe’s broader practice often bridges personal tribute and public gesture, inviting reflection on the enduring beauty and fragility of cultural and ecological landscapes.
