Wesley Ovitt was born in 1938 in Chicago. He studied art at the University of New Mexico in the early 1960s, where he earned a Master’s in Art. Ovitt later taught art at Arizona State University in Tempe and then at Texas College in Tyler, Texas. Within the areas of drawing, painting, and design, Ovitt found his full expression in printmaking and lithography.

In reference to his imagery, he states:

“I’m convinced that it’s unnecessary for me to go hunting images. At certain odd and unaccountable moments, visions arise spontaneously when the mind is receptive. It only remains necessary to recognize clearly the most important visions, then carefully make the transformation from immaterial to material vision.”

Ovitt’s works are exhibited in public and private collections throughout New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado.
