Although he received a degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, even as a student, Chris Woolam loved art. At the university, he minored in art history and painted and sketched while he was in school. Woolam worked briefly as an engineer following his graduation, but since his move to northern New Mexico in 1987 he has concentrated on painting and cabinetmaking.

“The beautiful landscapes and rich cultural heritage of northern New Mexico provide me with unlimited inspiration,” Woolam explains. “I also enjoy including local wildlife in my work and occasionally use animals I have seen in my travels in the South American jungles.”

Woolam’s furniture is the result of his desire to unite his love of painting, sculpture, and cabinetmaking. He also designs and builds solar adobe homes, including his new home and studio outside Taos.
